Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This is one privacy policy for this website and for all of my apps. It explains what each app and the website collect, which services receive data, why, and what you can do about it.
I am the controller responsible for the processing described here; my name and postal address are given in the Impressum. My apps have no accounts and no login, and there is no server of mine behind them: the only data that leaves your device goes to the services named below.
This website
This website is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, GitHub processes technical connection data (your IP address, the requested URL, the time of the request and your browser's user agent) to deliver the page and to keep the service secure, and may keep this data in server logs for a limited time. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is a website that can be delivered reliably and securely. More information is in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics, and loads nothing from third parties: no fonts, no scripts and no images from other servers.
Which app uses what
| App | Analytics | Crash reports | Ads | In-app purchases |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy Dice | Mixpanel | Sentry | Google AdMob or Guild Ads | Apple |
| Tear Tales | Mixpanel | Sentry | Guild Ads | Apple |
| Family Tree | Mixpanel | Sentry | none | Apple |
When I publish a new app or an app starts using another service, it is added to this table and described below.
Usage analytics (Mixpanel)
To understand which features are used and where an app can be improved, my apps send usage events to Mixpanel, Inc., San Francisco, USA.
Mixpanel receives app events (for example which screens are opened and which settings are changed), a random user ID that is created by the app and is not linked to your name or Apple ID, the device model, the operating system and app version, and the country derived from your IP address.
The analytics are switched on by default. You can switch them off at any time in the app's Settings; from then on no more events are sent.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is improving the apps based on how they are actually used. Data is transferred to the USA under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or, where it does not apply, under the EU standard contractual clauses. More information: Mixpanel Privacy Policy.
Crash reports and feedback (Sentry)
To find and fix bugs, my apps use Sentry, a service of Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry), San Francisco, USA. Crash reporting is only active in the release versions of the apps, not while I develop them.
When the app crashes or runs into an error, Sentry receives a technical report: the stack trace, the device model, the operating system and app version, and the same random user ID that is used for analytics. When you send a message with "Give feedback" in the app's Settings, that message and anything you write in it is also sent to me through Sentry.
The purpose is fixing bugs and answering your feedback. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for crash reports; my legitimate interest is a stable app. For feedback you send, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Data is transferred to the USA under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses. More information: Sentry Privacy Policy.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of Easy Dice shows a small ad banner. On most installs it is provided by Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, Google's consent dialog (the User Messaging Platform) asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. Without your consent, only non-personalised ads are shown.
To show and measure ads, Google receives device information, your IP address, advertising and usage data such as which ads were shown and tapped, and, only if you allow tracking in the iOS prompt, the advertising identifier (IDFA) of your device.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent) for personalised ads; otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest being financing the free app through ads. Google may process data outside the EU, including in the USA, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses. More information: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Advertising (Guild Ads)
The free version of Tear Tales, and some installs of Easy Dice instead of AdMob, show a banner from Guild Ads. Guild (guildads.com) is the sole controller of the data its SDK collects.
Guild Ads receives the app-specific vendor identifier (IDFV), never the advertising identifier; the ad impressions and taps with the placement where the ad was shown; and coarse device context: the device model, operating system version, locale, time zone, and the app's bundle ID and version.
The ads are contextual: they are chosen for the app they appear in, and there is no tracking across apps. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is financing the free app through ads without cross-app tracking. More information: guildads.com.
In-app purchases
Easy Dice Pro, Tear Tales Pro, and any purchase I may offer in future, are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I receive no payment details and no personal information about you, only anonymous sales reports from Apple. To know whether a purchase is unlocked, the app asks the App Store on your device. Apple's handling of your data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
Settings stored on your device
Your settings, such as the number of dice, the dice type, the background or whether sounds are on, are stored on your device and stay there. Deleting the app removes them.
Your records in Tear Tales (iCloud)
The records you write in Tear Tales (date, intensity, tags and notes) are stored on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced through your own iCloud account by Apple so that they are available on all your devices. I have no access to them, and they are never sent to me or to any of the services above. Deleting the app removes them from the device; records in iCloud can be removed in your device's iCloud settings. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
Contacting me
If you write to apps@t-schmutz.de, your message and the data it contains are stored so that I can answer it. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns a contract, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. I keep the correspondence as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and longer only where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object where the legal basis is legitimate interest (Art. 21). Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, normally the data protection authority of the German state in which I live, Baden-Württemberg.
Because the apps have no accounts, I usually cannot link data held by Mixpanel or Sentry to you by your name or email address. If you want to exercise one of these rights, write to me and I will do what I can.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date at the top.
